keeping your skin looking young

By: Geoff Hopkins, 2008-02-29When was the last time you looked in the mirror? Were you happy with what you saw, or repulsed? Are you starting to look like your aunt, instead of your younger sister? Are you even IDed at restaurants any more? If you’re not happy with where your skin is, then it might be time to look for the best wrinkle cream.

So what makes a wrinkle appear, and why are they so persistent? Simply put, it’s just a natural occurrence when any material, such as you skin, is folded or pleated repeatedly. If this occurs enough in the same manner, it can stop unfolding altogether.

Why do we get wrinkles? A wrinkle is generally caused by the aging process. However, the following factors can also contribute to early wrinkling of the skin: sun exposure, smoking, inadequate water consumption, or prolonged facial expressions. By avoiding these things, we can keep our skin looking younger and smoother.

A surprising discovery is that too much water can also cause wrinkles. Think about the last time you spent a long time in the jacuuzi or swimming pool. Do you remember when you got out and the skin on your fingers and toes were all scrunched up? While this may seem minor, if it happens too frequently, it can cause your skin to expand, and when you leave the water, the wrinkles could stay with you. Drinking proper amounts of water, and limiting your elongated submersion in water both improve your skin.

There is no realistic way to completely remove all your wrinkles that you have. But the Best Wrinkle Cream can certainly help. Using ingredients like Retinol, Hydroxy acids, Coenzyme Q10, Copper peptides, Kinetin, and Tea extracts will help combat the aging and wrinkling process.

Do not think that this best wrinkle cream is a cure-all, you must take care of your skin in other ways. For instance, when you hit the beach, or plan for an afternoon long picnic, use sunscreen, or wear long sleeves and pants with a wide brimmed hat. If you smoke, this is yet another reason to stop. Not only is smoking harmful internally, but the smoke will dry the skin and cause it to wrinkle. Next, make sure to properly hydrate yourself. This is again as important internally as it is externally. And do not forget to use your face muscles regularly. If you’re the type of person to walk around frowning all the time, STOP! You do not want those wrinkles to become permanent.

So how do you pick the wrinkle cream that’s right for you? As with any skin product, check the ingredients and pay special attention to the active ingredients. Many times the nationally recognized brand charges you more for the name that the product, so look closely for similar alternatives. Also keep in mind that expensive prescription products are only different in the strength versus over the counter options. Do not expect changed overnight. Do not pay attention to the ads where someone loses 10 years of appearance in a week, because this is unreasonable. These creams take time to work, and you may have to experiment with multiple brands.

Your skin if perhaps the most tell tale sign of age, and it’s what people notice. It’s natural to want to keep it looking good, and to maintain the smooth, clean look of youth. Wrinkle creams will allow you to slow and perhaps reverse the signs of again, so use them wisely to keep your skin in great shape!

Kourosh Maddahi DDS - Have a Healthy, Beautiful Smile with Cosmetic Dentistry

Article: Have a Healthy, Beautiful Smile with Cosmetic Dentistry

Visiting a highly qualified and reputable cosmetic dentist in Los Angeles such as Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, you will find the most modern technology available in use. You will have a widely trusted and respected dentist to help you choose the procedures and materials that are best for you. As a cosmetic dentist, Dr. Maddahi focuses on the appearance of the teeth, with an extensive background and education in traditional dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry focuses on the appearance of the teeth, while assisting with and taking into consideration the long term dental health of the patient.

Dr. Maddahi says, “I can help my patients with many techniques today. Porcelain laminate veneers and dental implants are two common options that can create drastic cosmetic changes, and have a great positive impact on a patient’s appearance. There are different circumstances that would indicate the need for one or the other.”

Porcelain veneers are one of the most significant advances in cosmetic dentistry, as they can correct a wide variety of dental problems including cracked teeth, chips, stains, crookedness and gaps between the teeth without prolonged orthodontic care. Veneers are usually made from porcelain, as porcelain is extremely durable and has color, translucence and texture similar to natural tooth enamel.

The placement of veneers requires time and expertise in order to fabricate and bond them properly. “The complete process requires at least two visits,” says Dr. Maddahi, “the first visit is for preparation. A small thickness is buffed off of the natural teeth to create room for the veneer. Custom impressions are then made of the teeth so that the veneers will fit perfectly.” The mold is sent to a specialized laboratory, where the veneers are expertly created.

On the second visit, Dr. Maddahi will bond the veneers to your teeth. First there is a “trial fitting”, using a temporary adhesive. This will allow you to work with Dr. Maddahi on the fit and appearance of the veneers and to request any final adjustments. Once the veneers are perfect, your teeth will be cleaned and the veneers will be cemented on with a permanent adhesive. There is no additional maintenance required, other than a follow-up visit, and proper brushing and flossing daily. Porcelain veneers can create a straight, perfect smile in just a few appointments.

When teeth are lost, dental implants may be the best option. Dental implants are artificial tooth root replacements, and are used as a permanent correction for missing teeth. The implants are made from lightweight titanium, a material which is strong, safe, and bonds exceptionally well with bone. New teeth are attached to these artificial roots.

“When a patient has missing teeth, the jawbone begins to shrink, making the face look older. Dentures sit on top of the gums, and do not stop this shrinkage. Over time dentures become uncomfortable and ill-fitting, as the shape of the patient’s jawbone continues to change,” explains Dr. Maddahi. “Implant supported replacement teeth are like natural teeth because they are secured to the bone. Patients with dental implants can chew and speak confidently.”

Whether you need veneers or implants, or whether a different cosmetic procedure is indicated, having a beautiful smile can make you feel better about yourself, and more confidently able to enjoy life, doing what everyone else is doing without having to think twice about it.

Dr. Maddahi is a seasoned veteran in the field of cosmetic dentistry, with specific knowledge and training in these procedures. He is personable, and takes his time to ensure that his patients achieve a beautiful and natural appearance.
